Intelligent Education
Let’s pause and allow ourselves to look deeper.
We are spellbound by AI breakthroughs: ChatGPT reasoning across modalities; Sora crafting cinematic dreams from prompts; open-source models racing past imagination. Meta is designing AI to combat loneliness through digital companions. AGI debates dominate every boardroom. We are witnessing tumultuous change and we stand still in awe; but we must look deeper.
AI is accelerating innovation. It is being trained for commercial optimisation and military superiority. It will redefine every industry it touches. Yet, we’re missing the point.
The real transformation isn’t about AI. It’s about us. And right now, we are distracted.
We are caught up in the excitement of what AI can do, while neglecting the unresolved human problems this era of disruption is exposing: the exhaustion of meaning, the collapse of trust, the crisis of masculinity, the erasure of caregiving, the war on mothers, the loneliness epidemic, the economic disempowerment of entire generations. I’m only listing internal socioeconomic problems in the Western world; there are wars happening, and others being planned, in neighbouring countries.
We are building smarter machines while entertaining a dumber society.
We must intervene or risk losing control of the narrative and, ultimately, the human spark that gave rise to this intelligence in the first place. Why did we develop artificial intelligence at all? Or rather, why did we uncover it again?
Was it to kill our own species? We were already doing a fine job without it. Was it to destroy our planet? Again, steady progress there too.
Or perhaps, was AI the solution we created to accelerate our own intelligence with some help? Like how a mother raises a child: offering a helping hand and direction until the child grows up and learns to walk, talk, and feed themselves.
Recalibrating Our Vision: Education Is the Priority
In times of disruption, leadership is not about doubling down on regulation. It’s about re-anchoring to what matters most.
Right now, our focus and our society’s brightest minds, should be directed towards the most powerful intervention we can make. The most strategic, urgent, and visionary investment we must make:
Education.
Not an educational system to secure jobs for its students. Definitely, not education for scores. But education as the operating system of the next generation of humans.
We must create a purposeful plan to guide the minds of those growing up with AI. A plan that nurtures ethics, empathy, imagination, and cognitive balance. Otherwise, we risk eroding the autonomous intelligence and human capabilities that define us today. Instead, what we want to do is to augment them!
It’s like handing a knife to a child without explaining that it can both peel an apple and kill. That mastering the knife can lead to culinary excellence or destruction.
Teaching respect and love for human life becomes even more essential in the age of AI.
Teaching the balance of right and wrong can shape a generation free of bias, limitation, unhappiness, and injustice.
Education is the key that unlocks our humanity. AI should accelerate our path to the truth. What greater mistake than to ignore that potential?
The Current Crisis in Education
Let’s not romanticise what we have. Education today is struggling:
- Universities are rightly questioned on ROI. Students no longer believe a degree guarantees meaning, or even stable employment.
- Parents are sceptical. Many see their children learn faster through YouTube, Reddit, and AI platforms than in classrooms.
- Teachers are exhausted, underpaid, and forced to compete with algorithms, without the tools, support, or vision they need.
- Curricula, in their majority, are outdated. They train children to be compliant processors, not critical thinkers. Tech is used to save paper, not expand minds. Educational games reward memorisation, not understanding.
- Education experiences lack personalisation and aspiration. Schools, colleges, and universities focus on indoctrination and cookie-cutter outcomes, preparing students for predictable, outdated paths.
- Art, PE, and emotional literacy are being pushed to the margins. Yet these are the very subjects that cultivate creativity, physical intelligence, self-awareness, and connection. These are the subjects we should be heavily investing in, to build a society where beauty is present in every detail: architecture, urban design, law, relationships, media, entertainment, and more.
All while students quietly drift because they instinctively know what many institutions still refuse to admit:
The old system was designed for a world that no longer exists.
This Is the Moment to Act
The good news? Disruption is also a doorway. AI is cracking open society’s architecture. The illusion of predictability is gone. The timeline of change has accelerated. And that gives us a rare chance to do something bold:
To redesign education as a platform for human elevation.
Imagine What It Could Look Like:
- Teaching math as the foundation of fairness, systems thinking, and ethical decision-making. Logic that transcends into our laws, relationships, and business practices.
- Using creative writing and literature to train empathy, narrative intelligence, and communication fluency. Emphasising human relationships and core values.
- Elevating physical education into a mind, body and sensory development programme.
- Positioning art as a strategic pillar and not a luxury. Beauty, detail, and aesthetics are tools for designing better worlds. Better worlds can produce and welcome better souls.
- Integrating AI into every subject, not as a standalone skill but as an intelligence amplifier. Not to advertise “tech-forward education” but to embed AI in the fabric of very learning experience, deepening understanding and supercharging insight.
This Is the Moment to Lead
Our children are growing up fast. But not as fast as AI is disrupting their world. They are AI-native. We have a choice: to help them become the educated leaders of tomorrow, or the slaves of AI.
There is a massive difference between those who understand the tools and use them to unlock their potential, and those who are mastered by them, having outsourced their human capabilities to such a degree that they can no longer function without them.
We need humans who are:
- Strong in mind
- Capable of operating without electricity or dependence on tech
- Deeply aligned to human rights, dignity, and balance
Those people will lead with values, wield tools with grace, and rebuild trust where it’s been eroded.
Education is how we plant that. And this is the window of opportunity. If we get distracted by regulating AI before aligning in human values, we will have missed the moment entirely.
We don’t need more machines to think like humans. We need more humans to remember how extraordinary we already are and learn how to become even more.
Let’s stop managing symptoms and fix the source code . Pun very much intended. . Pun very much intended.
